Dear Marina,<div><br></div><div>We are trying to organise Domestic workers here in India since last 20 - 30 years .At present there is not a single legislation to protect them from day to day exploitation. And so no minimum wages fixed, no service hours and service conditions applicable to this section of the workforce.No housing rights and no old age pension schemes are applicable to them.</div>
<div><br></div><div>We are fighting with central as well as state Govts to protect Domestic workers by a comprehensive legislation ...............and partially we could succsside.</div><div><br></div><div>Govt.of India had enacted a legislation to protect the interest of unorganised /unprotected/informal workers ,but it is in a very diluted form.......again we are fighting to make it comprehensive.</div>
<div><br></div><div>OUR DEMANDS ARE :1. Govt.should enact a comprehensive legislation for Domestic workers which includ Right of Employment , Fixation of Minimum wages , Social security like Provident Fund - Insurance - etc</div>
<div><br></div><div> 2. Right of Housing facilities</div><div><br></div><div> 3. Free and compulsory education to each and every ward or dependant</div>
<div><br></div><div> 4.Free medical facilities to all dependants</div><div><br></div><div> 5. Right of Oldage pension</div><div><br></div><div> On these demands we are organising domestic workers at national level and also pressurising elected parlimentarians for such legislation.</div>
<div><br></div><div> As I am also part of the WSF process,and we dicussed the issues and priblems faced by the Unprotected / informal workforce at Global level in general and India in perticular.</div><div><br></div><div>
