September 17 and 21, the European Social Forum (ESF) is going on in
Malmö in South Sweden. Many seminars are held but there has also been a
violent demonstration arranged by Reclaim the Streets.

European Social Forum wants to be an alternative to World Economic Forum which is a yearly summit with top politicians and leaders from the business world and other sectors.

ESF describes their mission on their homepage as follows: "The forum
is by far the biggest meeting place for social movements and a
progressive civil society in Europe - with the aim to create a better
Europe and a better world".

Most of the arrangements are peaceful seminars, workshops and
demonstrations arranged by a broad spectra of organisations from the
far left to human right organisations but there have also been violent
groups present.

During Friday night, 2000 people from Reclaim the Streets arranged a
demonstration, without permission from the police. At some point they
started to throw bottles and stones at the police according to Dagens
Nyheter. DN also writes that they broke a window to a bank. A man who
got glass all over him then started to throw back stones at the
demonstrators. The man was then abused and hit to the ground.

Svenska Dagbladet writes that other activists were also arrested
during the day, for example eleven peace activists who protested
against the company Aimpoints who is selling products to the US army.
Some of the activists tried to get into the company´s premises and some
were arrested for thrashing.
