We appeal to the participants in the World Social Forum to endorse worldwide
actions on March 19-20 to immediately end the criminal occupation of Iraq,
to express solidarity with the courageous Iraqi resistance that has derailed
the U.S. Empire, and to join in spirit and in deed to create a forum at the
WSF for those in solidarity with the resistance.

Apelamos aos participantes no Fórum Social Mundial para apoiarem acções por
todo o mundo em 19-20 de Março pelo fim imediato da criminosa ocupação do
Iraque, em expressão de solidariedade com a corajosa resistência iraquiana
que fez derrapar o Império norte-americano, e para nos juntarmos em espírito
e em actos para criar, no FSM, um fórum para os que estão solidários com a
resistência.

ACTION: Should the WSF remain limited to talk of how to make "another world"
possible? This undervalues the WSF’s potential. The Social Forums have
already inspired action. The high point: the call out of Florence in
November 2002 and its endorsement in January 2003 at the WSF in Porto
Alegre. These led to millions taking the streets in January, February and
March 2003. These actions built real solidarity between the workers and
progressive people of the imperialist "North" and the billions of people of
the global South in ways that mere words can never do.

ACÇÃO: Deve o FSM limitar-se a falar de como tornar possível “um outro
mundo”? Isto desvaloriza o potencial do FSM. Os Fóruns Sociais já inspiraram
a acção. Ponto alto: o apelo de Florença em Novembro de 2002 e o apoio que
lhe foi dado em Janeiro de 2003 no FSM em Porto Alegre. Isto levou a que
milhões de pessoas saíssem à rua em Janeiro, Fevereiro e Março de 2003.
Estas acções edificaram uma verdadeira solidariedade entre trabalhadores e
pessoas progressistas do “Norte” imperialista e os milhares de milhões de
pessoas do Sul mundial, de um modo que as simples palavras não podem
conseguir.

MARCH 19-20: The next weekend of worldwide protests will be on the second
anniversary of the illegal U.S. invasion. We invite participants of the WSF
to endorse and carry out these actions to make this a truly worldwide
weekend of struggle. In each country the organizations will choose their
slogans. But we assert that: (1) the occupation is illegal and illegitimate,
(2) the Iraqis have the right to resist occupation by whatever means
necessary and (3) the world is indebted to the Iraqi resistance for
derailing the U.S. war machine.

19-20 DE MARÇO: O próximo fim-de-semana de protestos mundiais será no
segundo aniversário da invasão ilegal pelos EUA. Convidamos os participantes
do FSM a apoiar e a levar a cabo estas acções de modo a conseguir-se um
verdadeiro fim-de-semana de luta a nível mundial. Em cada país as
organizações escolherão as suas palavras de ordem. Mas consideramos dado
comum que: (1) a ocupação é ilegal e ilegítima, (2) que os iraquianos têm o
direito a resistir à ocupação por todos os meios necessários e (3) que o
mundo está em dívida para com a resistência iraquiana por fazer derrapar a
máquina de guerra dos EUA.

SOLIDARITY: Remember May 1, 2003, when George W. Bush declared “mission
accomplished” on the deck of the USS Lincoln? The Pentagon’s tanks were
aimed at Iran, Syria, North Korea (DPRK), and the borders of China. Cuba,
Venezuela and Colombia were in their sights. Solidarity against intervention
and subversion is needed still in all these places. But the Pentagon now has
to think long and hard before committing its ground troops. Why? The Iraqi
resistance has tied down the U.S. military. U.S. youth avoid the Armed
Forces. Sergeants no longer re-enlist. There is a near-rebellion in the
ranks. More aggressions could deepen their crisis.

SOLIDARIEDADE: Lembram-se do dia 1 de Maio de 2003, quando George W. Bush
declarou “missão cumprida” no convés do USS Lincoln? Os tanques do Pentágono
estavam apontados para o Irão, a Síria, a Coreia do Norte (RDPC) e as
fronteiras da China. Cuba, Venezuela e Colômbia estavam nos seus planos. A
solidariedade contra a intervenção e a subversão continua a ser precisa em
todos estes países. Mas agora o Pentágono tem de pensar duas vezes antes de
pôr em acção as suas tropas terrestres. Porquê? Porque a resistência
iraquiana amarrou os militares dos EUA. A juventude dos EUA evita as Forças
Armadas. Os sargentos deixaram de se alistar. Existe uma pré-rebelião nas
fileiras. Novas agressões podem aprofundar esta crise.

SELF-DETERMINATION: There are different forces in the Iraqi resistance. They
have different ideologies and goals, but they all want the U.S. and all
other foreign occupation troops out of Iraq. Solidarity with the resistance
means simply solidarity with its struggle to drive out the occupation
forces. Neither Washington nor Brussels should decide Iraq’s future, nor
even the anti-war movement or the WSF. The Iraqis will decide. That is
self-determination.

AUTO-DETERMINAÇÃO: Existem diferentes forças na resistência iraquiana. Têm
diferentes ideologias e objectivos, mas todas querem que as tropas dos EUA e
de todos os outros ocupantes estrangeiros saiam do Iraque. Solidariedade com
a resistência significa apenas solidariedade com a sua luta para expulsar as
forças de ocupação. Nem Washington nem Bruxelas devem decidir o futuro do
Iraque, nem sequer o movimento contra a guerra, ou o FSM. Os iraquianos
decidirão. Isto quer dizer auto-determinação.

HEAR THE RESISTANCE: Representatives of some Iraqi resistance forces will be
at the WSF. One has signed a call asking for a big plenary session in
support of the Iraqi resistance in the light of the March 19 demonstrations.
We endorse this proposal. It can counter the falsehoods about the Iraq war,
from the lies about 9/11 and the “weapons of mass destruction” to the crimes
at Abu Ghraib and the assault on Falluja, to the goals of the resistance
itself.

OUVIR A RESISTÊNCIA: Representantes de algumas forças resistentes iraquianas
estarão no FSM. Uma delas assinou um apelo para uma grande sessão plenária
em apoio da resistência iraquiana durante as manifestações de 19 de Março.
Apoiamos esta proposta. Ela deve opôr-se às falsidades acerca da guerra do
Iraque, desde as mentiras acerca do 11 de Setembro e das “armas de
destruição de massa” até aos crimes de Abu Greib e ao assalto a Faluja, e
aos prórios objectivos da resistência.

The Out Now Coalition has called a demonstration for March 19 in New York,
the very city where the attack on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001,
was seized on by the Bush administration to justify endless preemptive wars.
The demands are: Bring the troops home now! End the occupation of Iraq!
Money for jobs, healthcare, schools & housing - not war! Hands off Social
Security! The protest aims to retake Central Park, banned during last
summer’s Republican National Convention. The call has received strong
support from trade unions and from the African American and Latino
communities in the city. Other major actions that day focus on a military
base near Fayetteville, North Carolina, and in California.

A Out Now Coalition apelou a uma manifestação para 19 de Março em Nova
Iorque, precisamente a cidade em que o ataque ao World Trade Center, em 11
de Setembro de 2001, foi aproveitado pela administração Bush para justificar
as guerras preventivas infinitas. As exigências são: Tragam de volta as
tropas, já! Fim à ocupação do Iraque! Dinheiro para empregos, saúde, escolas
e casas – não para a guerra! Tirem as mãos da Segurança Social! O protesto
visa ocupar o Central Park, interdito durante a Convenção Nacional
Republicana do verão passado. O apelo teve forte apoio dos sindicatos e das
comunidades afro-americana e latina da cidade. Outras importantes acções no
mesmo dia centrar-se-ão numa base miltar perto de Fayetteville, Carolina do
Norte, e na Califórnia.
