[WSF-Discuss] Europe Mobilizing - Be Aware

I have been reading reports which has been posted my colleague on this 
list about the events at ESF. he has posted these based on the news 
available from various blogs, websites or newspapers but information 
available is limited more to these kinds of rhetoric and false 
propaganda or the violent protest at ESF. For the benefit of those who 
didn't attend the Forum, could some of you post some reflections from 
your end or some sources where we could find more info on the Forum 
apart from ESF's own website ? Thanks !

The Cacim site in India is sufficiently democratic as to have re-posted 
your piece on the European Social Forum, which I picked up just now, 
after returning from Malmo.

Speaking in the name of, I think, the Jewish Defence League (a US 
organisation?), you warned participants - and the world - against a 
dominant or at least significant  anti-Jewish element within this event.

Maybe my Jewish nose is not sensitive enough, but my impression is that 
the 'paranoia, fanatism and racism' you warn of lies more in your rant 
than it did in the ESF.

I have, however, to admit, that I was concerned there with other matters.

I have to also admit that my only contacts with hypothetical anti-Jews 
there was with the Palestinian representative of a Jerusalem-based NGO, 
and a Palestinian taxi driver. Neither of these revealed the 
characteristics you warn against. I found the first entirely rational 
and friendly, the second friendly and efficient.

Please, however, provide me with evidence for your statements now that 
the ESF is over.

In case you are interested, I am a 72 year-old British Jew, most of 
whose forebears died in the holocaust. I have been an active 
anti-fascist and anti-racist since I was a schoolchild. I have family in 
Israel. I have never felt able to visit that country insofar as I have 
felt unable to stomach the creation of a state based on a reversal, 
rather than a surpassing, of racial privilege. Not to speak of the 
deliberate conflation of Judaism with Zionism and identification with 
the Israeli state.

As far as I am concerned, anti-racism is indivisible. It requires of 
those opposing anti-Jewish racism to be also opposed to 
anti-Palestinian, anti-Arab and anti-Islamic racism. It is these - or at 
least the latter two of these - rather than persecution of Jews that is 
most marked in the Western Europe I inhabit.

Can I assume that, as a rational and democratic person, you will post 
and answer this note on your blog?
