The Cuban group is made up of members from more than 24 women's, youth,
labor, farmers, religious, academic, artists and intellectuals'
organizations.
The delegates will participate in different work sessions within the forum
where topics to be analyzed include the nearly half century unjustly
imprisoned for a decade in the United States.
Jose Miguel Hernandez, of the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC), said Cuban
delegates will take part in debates on the effects of Free Trade Agreements,
the neoliberal policies in the region, integration models, as well as the
situation of women. They will also discuss with participants from other
nations the effects of the US blockade against Cuba and they will speak
about the case of the five Cuban antiterrorists unfairly imprisoned in the
US jails.
The forum brings together thousands of people from around the continent and
will have a greater presence of indigenous peoples and small farmers,
Hernandez told Prensa Latina.
Joel Suarez, of the Martin Luther King Center in Havana, and member of the
Hemispheric Committee, said holding the event in Guatemala offers the
possibility for the forum to have an indigenous face.
More than 6,000 delegates from countries from Canada to Argentina will
particate at the Americas Social Forum, to conclude with a march on October
12 to the Central Park.
