Guatemala, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Five days before the beginning in Guatemala
of the Third Americas Social Forum, the organizing committee speeds up
Thursday arrangements to welcome thousands of delegates in one of the events
of greatest significance for the region.

The meeting, to be held for a first time in a Central American country, will
bring together representatives from over 800 organizations, 100 leaders from
the Central American peasant group Via Campesina, as well as entities from
Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Cuba, Venezuela, and Mexico, among others.

The gathering will analyze important issues, among them, indigenous people,
defense of land, territories, the consequences of neoliberal policies, and
the US Free Trade Treaty, etc.

The forum will be held October 7-12 at the historic University of San
Carlos, and include a march from the higher education center to the city's
Central Park.

Sandra Moran, from the Hemispheric Committee, stated that the forum includes
358 events, among them seminars, workshops, talks and debates, as well as 50
artistic activities, multicultural nights, theatre works and screening of
films.
